Food riots thread…and energy.

Iceland sits on the largest and most active hotspot in the world and the one that made the island so they have geotherm capacity in spades. But its a small fishing and tourist nation. Not a major industrial power. Geotherm will not work.

In the US the only big hotspot we have is Yellowstone. And its not as good as Iceland.

Nukes built in factories are the only way to go.
There are small scattered geothermal spots throughout the USA.. Pagosa Springs, Colorado (off the top of my head).
Greens won't let you take advantage of it.

Now Iceland could take advantage of their geothermal. build electrical plant, build Hydrogen convertor. Use spare electricity to sell hydrogen to all the 'Green' Nations.

This is not going well…..

So what are things going to look like in 3 months…..6 months?

I may be wrong, but I recall that dropping daily average indoor temps from 20c to 10C will require from 500 to 1000 more calories per day. At what point will the high cost of food and the lack of energy to heat homes will begin to impact health?

Here is a 1 year graph of how "things" are going to look.
View attachment 7951161
that's an all-inclusive graph showing:
happiness levels
population left in USA and World
people that can afford to drive cars
people that can afford to cool their houses
water supply available for farming
wheat supply
people's savings account
people that still have a place to live

Let’s see their commitment level after a month of no utilities.

Flip side.

Let’s see their commitment level after a week of no food.

Now take a knee to your new masters.

None of the possible responses to this will result in anything other than more socialism.

-Subsidize the power companies (with printed money) or cap the power bills (these are essentially the same thing)
-They actually cut off power to those that don't pay the bills. That will get interesting, and I dont think they have the long term balls for this.
-The "help" the consumers by allotting usage that will keep the bills affordable. This will also impact the GDP and tax collection.

This is a bigger deal than most realize. The follow-on effects could very well result in the collapse of the middle class as their savings go to nothing within a very short period of time. It can also completely upend the EU economy. It could also bring about a Hitler type in one or more of these countries that slides in under the auspices of saving the day. The boogey man that the politicians will use for all of this is Russia. Russia is now the adversary of the world, not their stupid green energy or their past poor decisions that brought them to this point (Germany, etc).

Exactly this.

Subsidies will increase the inflation rate ( they don’t have the money so they print it. ) Cap bills and the companies will stop producing. If they can’t make a profit why do it? They can just move operations or materials to where they can….or close the doors.

Then there is another option…..

Nationalize the utilities companies.

I suppose there is an even more radical option left. Open warfare with Russia.

The last option is to cave to Russia’s demands.

Pick one.

My guess based on how they acted over 2 years. Option X: send police with batons and guns to homes of delinquent payers, seize assets, evict etc. Homes become public housing for certain groups who will have zero energy restrictions.

I strongly suspect that nationalization of utilities and other necessary industries will occur where it hasn’t already. IMO this is already a foregone conclusion.

But what happens when it is old folks homes, hospitals, grocery stores, etc? It won’t be just the citizen that can’t pay. Its going to be everyone.

Who wants to put a bet on when the first report of carbon monoxide poisoning hits the msm as alternative heating strategies get employed by the inexperienced?

They haven't been using logic or rationality during " The great pandemic". Sit down at a restaurant, take off your mask, it's safe for everyone. Stand up you better put on that mask or get jail time.

Pick the dumbest possible outcome and you will be closer to their next choice rather than figuring out what will keep things functioning. Because they aren't thinking about keeping things fully functional. If they were, the situation the population faces wouldn't be reality.

Or, just drop the sanctions and stop supporting a corrupt Nazi Ukrainian government?
That would be caving.

There is WAY more to that nazi angle than most realize. It was born from the “ enemy of my enemy is my friend”. They went that way due to the way Russia treated them during that war.

But anyways….that is an entirely different topic for another thread.

Personally I hope both sides lose that war

I am no fan of Putin or Russia, but....

The WEF plans to enslave the world.
It’s looking like the rest of the planet is going to owe Russia a big thanks for being the ones to essentially push back against the WEF destruction of the population to attempt to bring about some “One World Government”.

Russia refused to go along with their plans - they will govern their own country thank you very much - and their handling of this energy problem will get people to finally wake up and see that this “green” bullshit was to be fueled with unicorns and rainbows, because wind and solar may be “helpers” but cannot and will not ever sustain us or our energy needs.

It will be quite the wake up call for the world if Russia ends up bailing them all out of their WEF-created food shortage also. Russia sees the WEF plan of crippling the global food production - including that of the Ukraine, and is trying to make sure it remains a food source as it’s been traditionally. The only way to accomplish that is to keep it out of the west’s (WEF’s) hands.

Tell me why I am wrong?

Russia does not produce a lot of food.

Nor do they produce machine tools or electronics that support their industrial base.

They produce metals and energy and export it for what they need. That is what Russia has always done.

Putin does not care about the rest of the world, just Russia. He is like the old Nobility - stupid. WEF means nothing to him other than exporting stuff.

Had he signed a free trade pact with Ukraine and integrated them economically he'd have been a lot better off.

Europe has broken its ties to Russia and is now focused on long term fixes to their problems. We are exporting huge amounts of gas to them now and the EU will begin to drill again very soon and build nukes. I bet they will be hanging Greens come winter.

d even let you put up solar cells? So many ‘neighborhood’ Karen’s won’t let you put up a bird feeder. So…. Does money alone solve anything?

Again, fossil fuels have three huge advantages…. Energy density and transportability and storability.

Sirhr

And those three advantages feed on each other 1+1+1 = 100. Again people assume one thing is perfectly substitutable when it is not.

More sophisticated calculation that any climate changer will ever guess. Winters will always kill more in times of famine.

Oooh that's great marketing right there. Turn down the heat and lose weight while doing nothing!

It's always amazed me that something that comes directly from the earth is suddenly an ecological disaster if you can see it.

Right? When I took some grad geo courses, the Prof said something like 51 bar of carbon dioxide had been captured into coal, oil and carbonate rocks since life began. And that atmospheric pressure was likely 2X that of today prior to the Cretaceous and 3X during the carboniferous. The two most serious bio professors I know just laugh when someone mentions CO2. No serious Green today wants less CO2.
