Suppressors Form 4 wait time

Like was said, it’s essentially the ATF saying, “Ok, we have officially received a copy of your eForm (and trust), and we are now “cashing your check” for the $200 stamp. So we’re now going to officially start processing your paperwork.” It is essentially “Day 1” of your wait time.

Gen xers with a gen z daughter. Somewhat funny. They don't have everything.

I hears from my local dealer that customers that were submit multiple form 4’s at the same time were getting them back much quicker then single item applications.

Is there any truth to this or is it just a luck of the draw thing?

Depends. Some people get lucky and get a “batch approval” of all their cans together (or some of them), and others don’t. I’ve never had more than 2 in at a time, and when I did, they were not batch approved.

I’ve had a form 4 submitted since Dec of 22. I’m still waiting and I have from day one embraced the whole hurry up and wait concept. But I keep seeing people claiming they got theirs in only 2-6 months during this year, 23. Makes zero sense to me how that’s possible! I’ve got a form 1 submitted Dec 5th of this year and I’m betting it’ll get approved before the form 4…lol

The frustration is real….

Its certainly hit and miss. I submitted on 22 May and got approved on the 6 Dec for a Form 4. But then I see post such as yours and countless others who have been waiting for close to a year or longer. It can be disheartening to say the least.

Anyone have issues with efiling and the county not populating on the form?

I just submitted a form 1 and realized after the fact that my county didn't auto populate on the form, even though it shows my county correctly in my eforms profile. I created a new efile form 1 to see if it would allow me to enter or change my county and it wouldn't. Seems like a problem with the software. I emailed Ask the Experts, but figured I'd ask here.

Eform 4 submitted 6/21/23 through the LGS with a trust. Got the call that it's been approved 1/6/24. 195 days. I have 1 more on form 4 that's about 3 months behind it. This one is my first can so I'm super pumped to go phffft with it! 😃

I’ve got one sitting (trust) at 172 days, and just submitted another one. I have no earthly idea how long it will take. I was hoping the one submitted in July would have been approved by now.

I’m guessing Spring at the earliest and next fall on the more recently submitted. The entire thing is a head scratcher in this digital age.

Another thing I was told and not too sure how true it is but, was told that your age has a lot to do with it and how much security clearances and or trouble you’ve been in. Determines the depth of background checks applied for an NFA item vs just the standard NICs check for typical firearms purchases. Again, skeptical about this statement but wouldn’t be surprised!

I can promise you that isn't true. I've had as high a dod security clearance as anyone I've ever known, and all of my prior approvals are 11 months or more. Meanwhile some of you shady sumbitches are getting 90 day approvals..

Honestly I'd bet they make date batches and just go through the alphabet a to z and repeat over and over. The times don't make any sense otherwise. I just got mine back yesterday, and my brother who submitted his 3 weeks before me, but also in June, got his back today. I'd imagine they have to have some kind of system. No one could ever know it for sure unless you knew someone who worked there though. Although, that would not explain batch approvals. 🤷

Okay, so I don’t pay much attention to tracking these things but am interested now for some reason. I filed 2 Efile forms at my LGS in July-ish. How does one go about checking status online? Or is that even possible?

I could be mistaken but I do not believe you can track progress online through the eforms atf site. I believe the process is simply send it away and wait for the email approval notification from the ATF. That is how the last 3 worked for me over the past 18 months. All I ever received was the initial submission confirmation email and the approval email for each one after approximately 287 days. I logged into the atf eforms site and it did not show anything.

Correct, there’s no progress you can track online. Back during paper forms, you could call and see what your status was (basically, pending or approved) because the process took longer. A few pages back people were able to find an email to see if your NICS check was done , I think.
