I would counsel all cogent participants in this thread to abandon it. It was a trap to begin with, all these threads that bring out the cop haters end up the same way.

I know you read what I wrote. I never said the stop shouldn't have happened. I am just against the fishing expedition afterwards.
Officer pulls over the OP and asks for his license, insurance and registration. A simple question like how are you guys doing tonight? Will give him the opportunity to smell alcohol. "Hey I pulled you over because you didn't signal. I am going to check your info and if all is good you will be on your way." Now if everything is good he can either write the ticket or give the guy a verbal warning.

I raised 2 girls. I taught them as best I could to not make poor decisions. If they did they could always call me and there would be no additional problem with me. It is better to learn from the mistake by giving them sound advice for the future than to dogpile the consequences.

He's putting you in the back of his vehicle for his safety and yours. He was going to talk to the women/girl in the vehicle and he would prefer if you didn't have the option to take him by surprise. People without a criminal history do illegal things all the time. He's patting you down for weapons.
He pulled you over for a perfectly legal traffic violation stop and made a brief investigation into something that seemed out of the ordinary here.
Sure, you're a law abiding person, but I can promise you countless crimes have been prevented or criminals apprehended by officers doing good a good job like this one.
You should call him and thank him for his service.
While on the stop for the failure to use a signal, the officer noticed something that wasn't normal for what he is used to seeing at that time of night.
He further investigated that and found there was no wrong doing.

Gov't doesn't mandate the use to save you from yourself. Gov't mandates seatbelts to protect you from other people.
Two scenarios:
You have to slam on breaks for whatever reason. No seatbelt, you fly into windshield and lose control of vehicle, killing two joggers.

I did.... and if it had been me who pulled you over, the only thing that would have gone differently... is that I wouldn't have written you a citation.
But that was me... you had to work hard to earn a traffic infraction ticket from me. Sounds like you did everything right... and if I were the officer, it would have been 'thank you for your help tonite... have a great evening.'
Unfortunately, some have a more by-the-book viewpoint... or perhaps sergeants who allow less leeway on stops. Our department allowed us a lot of leeway to exercise professional judgement. And no quotas of any kind. Not stops, not tickets... not arrests. Other departments differ.
As for the fishing expedition... we aren't expected to have blinders. (well, weren't.... I'm retired.) We are expected to use our Spidey-sense... and look for non-sequitur's and things out of place. And pursue them. That's the difference between putting a traffic camera at every intersection and relying on human beings who have discretion and instincts and, occasionally, are fallible. If it's all about raising revenue at a stop sign, put in a traffic camera and every vehicle that doesn't stop.... send a ticket by mail. That technology exists. It's easy. Does anyone really want 'that?' Because some areas... are pushing that. That will eliminate the 'human factor' and any fishing. And will ensure a ticket is issued for every rolling stop. Does anyone want that? I don't.
Personally, I could care less about a seatbelt ticket or a rolling stop. Except as a reason to create an interaction. It was the duffel bag full of cocaine and the murder-warrant-guy-trying-to-get-to-Canada guy hidden in the trunk next to the border... that I was interested in during a stop. And, yes, both those things happened in my AO... just not to me. The rest of the time... it was a good chance to interact with people... give them a professional and gentle warning... verbal back when that was allowed... and NOT try and add $90 to the coffers. But if someone wanted to contribute and was dickhead enough to make it clear that they wanted a ticket... well, it was game on, cupcake!
Anyway... Fishing is part of the job. Along with knowing where to fish. And knowing what a fish looks like.... which some call profiling and I call... good job instincts. But to expect that noone is going to fish... is to not understand what one does during a traffic stop or an interaction.
That's not the 'security state' coming down on anyone. That's what the taxpayers want from its centurions. Well, most of them.

We are not that far off in our views. I have stated that officers deal with scum. There is no doubt. The problem is that eventually everyone is scum and not a Citizen. If you deal with 10% scum do the other 90% deserve to be treated like scum? Have a skeptical view on a stop. But treat Joe Citizen as just that until he proves otherwise. It would do a great deal in political relations to give Joe Citizen the benefit of the doubt on a stop. But that goes out the window when he is looked at as a revenue stream.

Not true about everyone. The need part ? that could be construed as the law getting in the way of the intent of said law, doled out by those who do not wear the badge. I've known two county's in my life where if you were to walk in an the judge heard he (Perp) need his ass beat or worst an over 50% of all in the court room agreed, the judge would find the defendant not guilty right out of the gate. I understand the letter as well as the intent, but there are times when slime-balls need to be dealt with, w/o the sworn being involved then or after it all come to light.

Probably not the best choice of wording. How about detaining and questioning under the guise of " there may have been a crime"? Yeah it's all within what the courts have said were reasonable. But is that congruent with a free society with the right to move about freely? Not so much in my book.

I’d rather go about my day and talking never got me there any faster.
I also don’t consent to searches. Again, I want to be on my way, and consenting to searches never got me on my way faster.
If the officer believes he has probable cause, he/she doesn’t need my permission and will search it anyway (readily mobile conveyance exception for any of you YouTube lawyers about to lose your shit on that sentence).

That's worked pretty well for me over the years. Only a couple of times when someone got uppity because I refused to consent to search. Not sure what the thinking is there.

I ask for consent to search sometimes when I have PC, just to help a case. But when I don’t and I’m just asking for the sake of asking, when someone says no, unless something is out of the ordinary, it’s usually followed by “okie doke, have a nice day sir/ma’am.”
There’s always plenty of people fucking up. There’s another chance on the next stop. No need to get emotionally attached or ego hurt on that one.

There are some here that need to read between the lines before bashing LEO's. The truth about their views are plain in this thread if you stop, take a breath, an digest what has been said to this point.
Community relations. The public's main source is their interaction with an officer on the side of the road. The officers attitude during this interaction goes a long way to the general perception of the PD. What is the actual percentage of "real criminals" discovered in regular traffic stops? 1% possibly? I will give you a crazy number and say 20%. So because of the hammer and nail mentality 80% of the general population is treated like crap? That goes a long way ingraining contempt for police. It's not that hard to understand.
Obviously something didn't look right to the cop. He's not randomly deciding to separate the parties involved to get their stories just to screw with a guy he pulled over for not using his blinker.
Had it appeared to be his family members, or appeared normal, he would have let them go on their way with either the blinker/seatbelt ticket or a warning, without separating and talking to anyone.
Stop with the police are out to get everyone conspiracy theories. Sure, there are some bad cops or asshole cops (just like in every job), but this instance appears to be someone doing their job extremely well.
For every story like this where someone was mildly inconvenienced because something didn't seem right, there are 1,000 stories that never get told where the cop takes care of his initial reason for the stop and sends someone on their way.

There is a neighborhood directly across the street from the bar. She asked for a ride, I gave her a ride. Not everybody is looking to get their dick wet 24/7. As for the guy who said he wouldve left them there since her cousin was only 17, wow, youre paranoid. Sorry, but Im not that paranoid, nor that big of an asshole. I didnt ask for an ID because it was just a ride. If id asked how old she was and she lied and said "18", would it have mattered? The bar, and the spot I got pulled over is about 6 miles apart. No way the trooper saw me "picking up bitches at a bar". He was also coming south, and I was going north. And we only chatted for 5 minutes. So that scenario (saw me pick them up) is IMPOSSIBLE.

If you stop, you may be labeled a creep thats just trying to gain some brownie points or do some "hinky shit", and get interrogated when the police arrive...."How do you know this girl?"....."Were you following her?"..."You look familiar...".."Sit in the back until we can clear you. You mean like Parkland? Or Vegas? If everybody carried, things would sort themselves out real quick. Ya know, like things used to be. Everybody had a sword or a gun. And people were polite and respectful. If they werent, good chance that dickhead was going to get what was coming to him. Ive never in my 33 years NEEDED a cop. LE is a cleanup crew (no offense). Theyre 99% of the time called AFTER an altercation has occurred. What good is that? The world has went about just fine for thousands of years without LE. The people policed themselves and dealt with the bad guys accordingly. Oh, but we're "civilized" now. No, people are more out of control now than ever before according to statistics. Because EVERYTHING is against the law. And only the "system" can deal with them. If cops were taken off the streets tomorrow, the bad guys would be dealt with by the people. Without clogging up the courts with BS, nor costing the tax payers millions. Crime wouldnt win, believe me. If we started dealing with drugs like Duerte, modern LE would cease to exist in 2 years. What is the majority of police work? Drugs and traffic (revenue stream). Gangs would be wiped out in a month. There is an easy solution to every problem.
If somebody rear ends me, Ill call the police. If I get my head blown off, somebody else will call the police. The only emergency help Ill ever need is a ambulance/hospital and a firetruck in case my house catches fire. Have a nice day fellas.

Researcher's are finding that one of the biggest causes of snowflakes is because their parents spent too much time "warning" them and not delivering consequences.
Keep warning people = keep doing shit they shouldn't.
It's possible the OP getting the ticket will remind him to obey traffic laws in the future, which will in turn prevent another stop in which he could do something stupid and get hit, tasered, or shot.
