That thing must weight around 55 lbs. </div></div>

I've got a 338 allen Mag on Bat that has a 1.75" straight barrel thats 42" long and it tips the scales at 58 lbs with no scope so I can say without a doubt that this rifle is much much heavier than that. I'd say that the action weighs 35 lbs I'd guess the total weight of the rifle at closer to 100lbs and possibly more.

reloading tools currenty consist of

drum of powder
shovel
feed store scale
dead blow 10# hammer
and a porta power

spotter should be able to pick up trace pretty easily....for part of the flight anyway

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

Someone please explain to me the application for that thing. I mean be serious... Just because you can.... Doesn't mean you should. For the money and time invested in that thing, I'd rather have 3-4 other customs with actual real life application. Seems like a waste of time and money. Unless it explodes on video. At least that would be entertaining.

Please enlighten me on the reason for being a dick.

Just curious why you would wish ill will on someone like that.

Because sometimes too much is never enough. If no one pushes the envelope we may never learn anything new. If you're suffering from a severe case of penis envy sometimes it's best to just keep it to yourself.

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

I can't possibly imagine the practical applications of this thing either.......but it's bad ass and hope it does everything and more it's creator intended.

Please keep us posted, I'd love to see the results.

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

First off... awesome work by XLR to help a pioneer out.

To all the idiots that keep wanting to see it explode, get out of your parents basement and become a useful person... holy crap. Why would you wish serious injury, loss of investment, and potentially death on someone simply due to your lack of initiative and creativity??? At least he's trying something new.

As for the rifle itself. Not my cup of tea. I don't need something that has to be vehicle mounted for transportation...good luck with it guys.

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

Wow now that is amazing. I cant wait to see it in action. Yes i would be happy to stand in line just to shoot this huge bad ass rifle. Cant wait to see test results from it.

To wish a fellow shooter harm is gutless. You need to excuse yourself from posting in this thread. Just because your simple mind can't understand the advancement of ELR shooting doesn't mean you come here and piss all over a guys dream to go bigger and more extreme.

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

There is some real assholes on here ripping on this rifle. Wish I could follow some of their threads, they're probably about how they got their toes done. To you assholes, suck it.

As for this rifle, job well done. I want pictures of the muzzle blast and the target, which will probably be a UPS truck 4 zipcodes away.

I picture the spotter having internal injuries and shitting blood the rest of his life.

Great job with it, truely

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

Awesome creativeness and workmanship, that thing is definitely a beast! Out of curiosity, does this have a purpose other than shooting really REALLY far and just to see if it could be done? It seems like I saw something similar to this for triggering "controlled" avalanches once upon a time. Just wondering if it has an end "job" or if it's just a VERY big toy. Either way it's pretty sweet.

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

For the asshats that cant understand why one would build this beast the smile on the man holding it shows why one would "waste" time and money on it. I for one think its awesome!!! Now I want to see the fireball this baby spews when a round is sent down range!

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

Pretty impressive rifle! For one I can use I can see engaging hardened targets from distances they could not even begin to see the shooter. I see that as a distinct possibility in the foreseeable future. A number of foreign entities seemingly do not wish for us to be sovereign of ourselves anymore.

To the poster going to CA. I'm pretty sure CA laws restricts 50 BMG ...and larger. I would check if I were you to be sure. If that is the case, not a problem. We have a number of members in and around Las Vegas or Reno, that would be glad to sponsor a trip to the desert with you and help you get that thing fired as far out as it can go.

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

Hmmmmm gyro stabilized saddle mount, hydraulically assisted T&E, non military caliber and still shoulder fired........

[Add Barbarosa's voice here]

"Arrrrr matey, we be standin' off that vessel a bit more than we planned."

I can see the application

Cheers,

They restrict against 50cal bullets..... this is not a 50bmg. They banned the Barrett 50's then Barrett came out with the 416. Its about the projectile. Im sure the owner has done his research before making the trip.

They don't restrict .50 cal bullets. They restrict .50 BMG's. All kinds of blackpowder .50 cal cartridges still firing away out there. It is my understanding that they also restricted cartridges with more power/bigger diameter than .50 BMG. That is why Barrett got away with going to the 416, it's smaller.

In any case, the intent of my post was to advise to double check the CA regs before he got into any trouble. Not listen to you trying to split hairs on semantics. I know he did his research. It never hurts to look again. California has all kinds of stupid laws.

In my haste I wrote bullets but meant BMG. I would fully expect a person to know the Cali laws before rolling in there with something like that.

Split hairs? You stated that he might not be allowed to have the rifle.... I took that as you don't quite know what you're talking about. Sorry to have offended you.

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

after seeing the vid, WOW! the recoil looks very manageable from here.
Please post more.
can't wait to see more.
This rifle does two distinct things:
1) This is an incredible show piece for the builder.
2) It makes for a great customer.

The only problem I can see is medical liablity from a customer with a perminent erection that just won't go away after taking ownership of such beast.

That is one hell of a work of art.
When I get enough pocket change saved up I intend on getting an XLR to stick a Savage on. Dog got sick & drained my XLR savings last time. Starting over from scratch agian.

Keep up the great work!

Is that a Remington 700 trigger assembly? It went off by itself...

Do most of us really NEED rifles that will shoot God knows how far? Hell no. We buy 'em or build 'em because we can and we enjoy 'em. I'm not mad at him because he spent the time & money to have the biggest toy. I would like to play with it though.....

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

I understand Nightforce advertises their scopes holding up to the 14.5 Russian and obviously the .50 BMG. How would it hold up on this thing?

And what is the planned optic?

Re: It Lives! Largest XLR ever!!!

Security on cruise ships that need to sail in the waters of SE africa could use these....

The pirates would be discouraged mateys....

Edit: Come to think of it, if some cruise company want ot put a FLir sight on top of that thing and pay me to sit on the upper deck of a cruise ship I'm in! (Make sure I can at least see the pool... LOL
