New to bolt action rifles and looking to get a AI AT, should I go with 308WIN or 6.5Creed Moore?

I have the nightforce horizontally split scope rings. I got the fix it sticks from amazon. It’ll be here tomorrow. I only had a torque wrench from back when I built lots of ARs, never had a torque screwdriver. Thanks for the recommendation

I know man but at the same time, he’s new and, while SH is the best resource out there, it can be overwhelming to a lot of people. This isn’t the bear pit and he’s acting the way someone who knows nothing about any of this usually does. Uh, there is such a thing as OJT along with reading and study. Requiring to be nursed by “education” (usually a keen grasp of the obvious) is a Democrat/Liberal/Socialist trait. Start off with a “home job” of AI AT chassis with a Remington Cheapie or up to 5R long range model and a Jewell Trigger set to 8 oz. plus a Sinclair bipod. Learn how to process cases and start reloading. My basic rifles have 32X Sightron scopes, although now I would prefer Vortex. By the way, this job was so old that I had to “mill” the extra clearance required for the Jewell Trigger extraordinarily tediously, but perfectly, with a drill press. I now have a mini-mill.

Thanks. I have the disposable income to splurge on this, so the financial part isn't a problem. I had a taste for sorta long range shooting (only up to 200 yards), I was using a KAC SR-15 for that, and obviously that's not the right caliber nor nearly as effective as a top end bolt action rifle like the AI. So I am interested and I'd love to learn more.

200 yards and you don't think 223 Remington was the right caliber?

What sort of subject matter knowledge do you have to make that assessment?

I would HIGHLY recommend having a competent gunsmith or armorer install it for you. You need the proper tools and setup. They’re not difficult to do by any means, and they don’t need a shim set because they’re self timing, but you don’t want to screw something up on the rifle on day 1.

I just installed an Area 419 brake myself. All you need is some Rocksett and a wrench!
BTW, I was in the same position as the OP last January.
Never even knew this website existed.
Did some careful research and purchased an AX 6cm from Mile High in January, at what I think is a good price.
Found this website and watched a number of X-Ring YouTube videos.
Purchased Sphur mount and Leica PRS Scope, did all the mounting, sighting in myself, no problem as I have been shooting
all types of rifles for decades but wanted to use the new 200 yd range my Club is building and a local 300 yd range.
I have found early on that entering at the bottom is not for me in any endeavor.
Have Borka Tools set for mounting.
Got in on the Prime Group Buy for 6cm and found some other stuff for purchase.
Will purchase a set of dies and off I go after not reloading for many years.
I think the OP did what was good for him.

Enjoy a great rifle and cartridge and the challenges of learning.
Get at least 18x on the scope for the high end.
Cutting muzzle threads on a quality blank does nothing to it but provides options in the future.

I'm on the fence about buying a axsr right now or holding off. Guess what? My decision is based off of ammo prices and availability. That said, I'm not willing to pay $2/rd for Fed GMM 308win. If it was .67/rd like last time I stocked up, I would buy more. So i guess we all have that "what we are willing to pay" number in our head. I dont want to be at the mercy of availability/cost when I buy ammo. I'd rather buy what I want at a price I'm willing to pay.

Quite frankly you don't have anything with me as availability in local stores is right now the same for .308 and 6.5 CM - nil!
I was simply replying to the OP to base his decision on the metrics of what range he expects to generally shoot at. None of us like to pay through the nose for ammo but price is based on supply and demand and for the foreseeable future to expect huge price drops regardless of caliber seems an exercise in futility. Yeah they recommend 1.125", but I chose to go a little higher to 1.265" for a more comfortable cheek weld on the lowest setting cheek riser.
