New to bolt action rifles and looking to get a AI AT, should I go with 308WIN or 6.5Creed Moore?

I have the nightforce horizontally split scope rings. I got the fix it sticks from amazon. It’ll be here tomorrow. I only had a torque wrench from back when I built lots of ARs, never had a torque screwdriver. Thanks for the recommendation

A quality Inch-lbs screw driver will work too.

Dude. How much of this thread have you read?
Did you just assume I can read? #HateCrime
#RightToJail

😂

I know man but at the same time, he’s new and, while SH is the best resource out there, it can be overwhelming to a lot of people. This isn’t the bear pit and he’s acting the way someone who knows nothing about any of this usually does. It can be frustrating to answer/be constantly asked (seemingly) stupid questions, but we all started new at some point and all did or asked something stupid over the years.

Uh, there is such a thing as OJT along with reading and study. Requiring to be nursed by “education” (usually a keen grasp of the obvious) is a Democrat/Liberal/Socialist trait. Start off with a “home job” of AI AT chassis with a Remington Cheapie or up to 5R long range model and a Jewell Trigger set to 8 oz. plus a Sinclair bipod. Learn how to process cases and start reloading. My basic rifles have 32X Sightron scopes, although now I would prefer Vortex. By the way, this job was so old that I had to “mill” the extra clearance required for the Jewell Trigger extraordinarily tediously, but perfectly, with a drill press. I now have a mini-mill.

Thanks. I have the disposable income to splurge on this, so the financial part isn't a problem. I had a taste for sorta long range shooting (only up to 200 yards), I was using a KAC SR-15 for that, and obviously that's not the right caliber nor nearly as effective as a top end bolt action rifle like the AI. So I am interested and I'd love to learn more.

200 yards and you don't think 223 Remington was the right caliber?

What sort of subject matter knowledge do you have to make that assessment?

I would HIGHLY recommend having a competent gunsmith or armorer install it for you. You need the proper tools and setup. They’re not difficult to do by any means, and they don’t need a shim set because they’re self timing, but you don’t want to screw something up on the rifle on day 1.

LOLWTF

What is this faggotry?

I bet you take you car to the "mechanic" to have the tire pressure checked?

Me? Nooooo...I’ve got a lift in my shop. I also read the part where horizontal and vertical had to be laid out in this thread and whether or not muzzle threads affect accuracy and ain’t taking anything for granted LOL.

Maybe you're right and it's the OP who needs a mechanic to check his tire pressures. :ROFLMAO:

I just installed an Area 419 brake myself. All you need is some Rocksett and a wrench!
BTW, I was in the same position as the OP last January.
Never even knew this website existed.
Did some careful research and purchased an AX 6cm from Mile High in January, at what I think is a good price.
Found this website and watched a number of X-Ring YouTube videos.
Purchased Sphur mount and Leica PRS Scope, did all the mounting, sighting in myself, no problem as I have been shooting
all types of rifles for decades but wanted to use the new 200 yd range my Club is building and a local 300 yd range.
I have found early on that entering at the bottom is not for me in any endeavor.
Have Borka Tools set for mounting.
Got in on the Prime Group Buy for 6cm and found some other stuff for purchase.
Will purchase a set of dies and off I go after not reloading for many years.
I think the OP did what was good for him.
As to this Thread..........

This is going to be a thing for a while, huh? When someone has a different idea about spending money on a gun and a person disagrees you personalize it and call them the most demeaning thing you can think of, which of course is a political affiliation bc you're so wrapped up in it. You can't do anything about the current situation, but you're really frustrated by it and you dwell on it. You feel superior about your perspectives on life but indignant that you have to be subject to others differing view. And the obsessing manifests in unrelated ways, like a discussion on a gun forum where you disagree with a third person about how to spend the second person's money.

Ughh, fuckin gross....

I feel superior on the basis of proven experience in the matters that I chose to comment upon. Nothing will do a shooter better than a copy of the Ballistic application, a mirage chart, the Beaufort wind chart and time at the club’s 600 yard range playing with wind corrections.

Uh, I was not commenting on money being spent to purchase a firearm. Do you have reading comprehension issues...maybe that is why you like being taught what you could otherwise easily learn for yourself...that is, if you can read.

Opinions are like arseholes.
Everybody has one, and they are often full of shit.
Just buy what you want, and get skilled on it.
As for being labelled as a Democrat, Liberal, Socialist, and no doubt Communist will be added to the mix....blah, blah, fucking blah, blah.
None of us were born with our knowledge and experiences programmed in.
I thought this site was for the free sharing of knowledge and experiences, to aid all members to achieve their goals and enjoy doing so.
With a bit of banter thrown in.
Instead, it seems to be a coven of bitches, ready to pounce on those naive enough to ask for help.
My grandfather always said, everyone you meet, knows something you don't.

@Sniper8, enjoy your journey, and whatever you get, I hope you have fun with it.

Get the AI
Get it in 6.5CM
Enjoy a great rifle and cartridge and the challenges of learning.
Get at least 18x on the scope for the high end.
Cutting muzzle threads on a quality blank does nothing to it but provides options in the future.

All depends at what ranges you're shooting and whether you want more, or slightly less recoil. if you can afford an AI you really shouldn't be worried about price and availability of ammo, or barrel life.

I was taught at a Special Forces sniper school called SOTIC. And then instructed there myself. A person can do a lot of self learning but I just can't get past your belligerence to even moderately agree with you.
The military training Soldiers, and private companies training skilled workers is obviously national socialism. Fuck u commies I’am working a gas station, hold up..... someone taught me to count..... shit, fuckn communist Bastards.

Hmmm, news to me. I didn't know i shouldn't care about ammo prices.
If he's worried about ammo prices after buying just the AT without glass, or if he should upgrade to the AX if "it is worth the extra $2500?" maybe he should go with more of a budget option like a Tikka, however if you can barely afford your ammo with your AI then maybe you need to consider downsizing too, how should I know, or why should I care what drives your budget and needs.

I think the only problem i have is you assuming that he can barely afford ammo.

I'm on the fence about buying a axsr right now or holding off. Guess what? My decision is based off of ammo prices and availability. That said, I'm not willing to pay $2/rd for Fed GMM 308win. If it was .67/rd like last time I stocked up, I would buy more. So i guess we all have that "what we are willing to pay" number in our head. I dont want to be at the mercy of availability/cost when I buy ammo. I'd rather buy what I want at a price I'm willing to pay.

Quite frankly you don't have anything with me as availability in local stores is right now the same for .308 and 6.5 CM - nil!
I was simply replying to the OP to base his decision on the metrics of what range he expects to generally shoot at. None of us like to pay through the nose for ammo but price is based on supply and demand and for the foreseeable future to expect huge price drops regardless of caliber seems an exercise in futility. I don't care what rifle, or caliber you buy, or if you can afford it, as I'm not willing to chip in, my answer was to the OP .

Oh come on!? A Harris, really? I think someone is trolling this hard.

But seriously, if you’ve got cash on hand for an AI, and don’t care about paying $2.00 or more a round for 6.5 CM, get an Atlas CAL at the least. Please.

I was told to get a $400+ bipod, as anything less wasn't worth it over a Harris, which I already had on hand. What is this specific model $400+ bipod I should get to fit my AI?

This combo should be good to go for the AI? I just want to make sure everything fits and is compatible.

Am new here too op. Am waiting on my GAP for the next couple of months but I will say have to admire your ability to just pull the trigger on whatever needed to get up and going. I can't decide on rings, scope, sling, bag, tripod, Binos, ballistics calc, kestrol, mat, or suppressor. It truly seems like you are already partying while I am waiting on my aged bourbon to turn out perfect. Tip of the hat.

Which GAP rifle did you get? Might be my next one

I got the Pinnacle production 6 creed. Plan was to dip toes in this pond but not how it works with this hobby. Have a local guy I am going to do a hunting build with but couldn't pass up the price point on the GAP.
