Anyone else having great results with the Remey 5R in .223 right out of the box. When I properly apply the booger hook to the bang stick the 5 shot group below is common. The group measures .245" ctc. The load is a 60 gn sierra sittin on 22.8 gns of AA-2460 in a LC case

Re: Remington 5R Mil Spec.

Looks good! I saw one of those for sale a few weeks ago in Greenwood...Almost picked it up. What range are you shooting at? I don't recognize it, and I'm always looking for new places to shoot my rifles here in Indiana.

It was the rifle range at the Martinsville Sportsmans
Conservation Club. They have a website but the membership is closed and it is impossible to join because nobody quits.

What ranges do you shoot at?

Re: Remington 5R Mil Spec.

I do most of my shooting at a farm in Arcadia or at a buddies cabin down near Nashville. We can get out to 1200 yards at the farm when there are no crops planted. I go to Atterbury every once and awhile. Youngs long shot up near Ft. Wayne is the best place in the state IMO. Bass and Bucks in Wabash is great too. Really nice people run the place just like Youngs. I think their range is out to 600 Youngs 1000ish. I live in Noblesville so there isn't anything real close. Miss being able to shoot in the back yard here....dang urban sprawl ruining all my fun!

Re: Remington 5R Mil Spec.

I'm pretty limited to 100 yard shooting. That is why most of my smoke poles are .223. However I have a 40x in 7.62 for the day when they build the rumored 300 yard range. I shoot skeet in the leagues at the atterbury skeet and trap. I have never shot at their rifle range. Too much going on for me there. My wife and I had the whole place in Martinsville to ourselves Saturday. We will have to get together sometime. Send me a pm.

Re: Remington 5R Mil Spec.

The last 5r I had would shoot like your's if I did my job. Always loved that rifle but the ADD got me and I sold it to a friend to get something else. Have not seen to many posts about 5r's that wouldn't shoot really well.

Re: Remington 5R Mil Spec.

I have a 5r in 300 win mag, I wish it shot like that. Still trying to figure out if it's me or the ammo, been only shooting off the shelf ammo through it, no hand load or match. Groups at 100 are in the 2" range. Haven't givin up on it yet, waiting for some match ammo to come in and will start loading my own this fall. Hope I didn't get a bad one.

Nice group btw.

Well I tried to shoot my friends 300 win mag. The thing beat me up so bad I could barely hold minute of bowling ball. It was a high end savage so I know it will shoot. Maybe that ass woopin you get every time you shoot it affects the group size. I can go to sleep on the little .223 and not wake up when it goes off. In my humble opinion reloads are a must for reliable sub moa groups. I'm not sure I could work up a load for that monster without a shoulder transplant.

Re: Remington 5R Mil Spec.

yeah my 5R in a 223 shoots just as good as yours does.but mine has never seen a factory round yet.been loading for it since day one.my goto load as of now is a 69gn NCC with 24gn of 8208 in a Lapua case.it shoots a tiny little hole shoot at 100 and gives a 1.5 inch group out at 300 with ten shots.

hey all three of ave one of my 5R's shoot great.I have one of each and love them all.

I don't want to hijack my own post but how would you compare the .260 to the .280. I want to build a bolt gun and it will be one of the two. I'm leaning to the .280 because of the selection of 7mm bullets and I have a buttload of 06 brass. Your thoughts?

or in 6.5 Creedmoor

I have a 5R in .308 and in .300WM - best value rifle for the money IMO. The .308 is easily sub .5 moa as long as I do my part, the .300WM is new and has not been shot yet.
