Maggie’s What's Your View II

Just scored a private spot to shoot to 1200yds so my view is the garage whipping up some rebar target stands.

And that is a VERY good thing!

Standby gentleman for my view tomorrow. Lunch over a campfire in the timber. It certainly won’t be a culinary treat by any means, but hope to include big smiles by the kids. Fresh air (35 degrees), sun, and little wind. If I can sneak away for a bit, I’ve got the big saw in the truck just to keep it limbered up for the main stem of a dead standing Bitternut Hickory I tipped over last Sunday.

aac_shooter: Best of luck to you guys. Knock'm down and make some memories !!!!! Keep us updated if ya would.

Long_Action: That is a beautiful shot right there. I'll put up a bit bigger pic of your pic. Pretty certain that's not Iowa. :p

Headed to the Gulag and find a truck that thinks it's a boat stalled in my damn road. Burning time I don't have to burn not being able to make it into the hell hole. Been getting a tad wet up here in the PNW of late. Go figure.........

They waded out to get some crab rope to pull it out before it goes bye bye.

So, being the slave driver I am, i drug the kids out to the timber today. It was a bit cool this morning, in the low 20’s. Picture my son took as he was hauling brush to the campfire. At 13, he’s very small for his age, but has become a steady hand running the loader tractor.

I don’t believe it ever got above freezing, but keep ‘em moving and fed, they’re happy as clams. My son didn’t like this picture, but I only took one, and I’m bigger than him, so...

Thanks for helping out Bud. In Costa Rica for a week and had limited WIFI and only my wife's phone. I'll try to get some pictures uploaded when time allows.

Scouting for one more Hunt before season ends here in Montana. Up an old logging road at about 6,000 ft. Snow is receding up here and it's windy as hell. I'm alone as usual but loaded out for two. 50 pound pack plus two long guns and ammo. This shit will make you strawwwng.

Good for you sir! Out doing the work. It ain’t always easy like the “hunting” shows portray it. You’re doing it right.

Hiked up to about 8,000 ft and pulled out the little rocket stove and made some coffee. It's the little things. Girlfriend and I finished dressing about 20 Canada geese and a few ducks a friend brought by after my scouting trip. Thanksgiving goose it is!

Bet that warm coffee tasted real fine. A fella burns a LOT of fuel out in the cool weather. If I’m out in the timber for a day and it’s below 20 F, I crave carbs and fat.

love toting my rocket stove and a ti pot for some java on the go. When out for a long trip on days like that, I carry a couple packets of lipton cup o soup too.
looks like a pretty good time out to me.

tnichols - I am in Hooterville West this week. Visiting my folks, extended family, and old friends for a couple days here in SW Iowa.

Hey man, good for you. You’re home during a nice run of weather too! 60+ degrees here tomorrow.

Headed put to my buddy's farm this afternoon. He runs very close to 1000 head of cattle and a decent sized farm so he can feed em.
He mentioned a couple new guns he needs to shoot and my 5 yr old is chomping at the bit to show her grandparents how she shoots her rifle.

His beef is unreal. I bought one last year at market price and paid $450 to have it all butchered up. Came out to $2.32/lb all said and done and it was better than anything I can buy in CO even at a fancy butcher shop. Also nice to know your butcher, my parents were the best man and maid of honor in their wedding in 1975.

Hope all you folks have had a wonderful Thanksgiving and many blessings to be greatful for.

Been putting up new porch railings during our holiday break, and got pleasantly interrupted this afternoon by a visitor from Nashville.

She puts in 20 hours of road time to be with her family for 2 days at Thanksgiving, and then goes even farther out of her way to come and visit the Tuckers and say thanks for the support.

We had a beer and chatted for about an hour, and she sang us a beautiful song she'd just finished writing.

Guys, I'm telling you, the kid is going places. A voice like an angel and gifted musically beyond my feeble comprehension. But beyond her talents, she is astoundingly grounded and focused for a 24 year old of these modern times.

Good on you for taking him out. I fully realize it limits you on what you can do, and is a ton of extra work, but it’s time well spent. The “outdoors” solves a lot of problems.

The "outdoors" was the best time I ever spent with my Pops, and by far the best period of our relationship. Being in the woods or on the water with your old man is the absolute best.

I agree 1000%
Lost my dad a few years ago. Hunting, fishing, shooting and riding ATVs just doesn't feel the same anymore.
Dad was always ready and willing to do something in the outdoors.
I miss the hell out of that grumpy old man.

I did a good days scouting for this MONSTROUS Muley buck I have seen in one of my little honey holes all season. I have had clients and vets in there but didn't take them into this guy's haunts as it's wayyy out of reach and a good five miles back up the mountain from any road or access. I decided I was going to let my girlfriend take him. I took her up yesterday and got a great set on him. Uphill and downwind from him here he comes, just where I thought he would be. She was about ten yards from me and both about 100 yards from this huge Muley. I was going to enjoy her having him scored as he was a monster. I see a lot of good bucks every year but this guy....whoop aaa boy. Anyway, there he is broadside at 100 yards and I give her the nod. She takes a shot and sent it into space somewhere as it never touched him. I immediately said FUCK...out loud. I gave it due diligence just in case but he wasn't hit and I spent the next hour tracking him up a mountain hoping to get another shot at him. No joy.

So today I took her back out and said "ok, you're on your own. I put you in front of a big buck yesterday and you got the shakes and missed. Today you put the stalk in and make your own kill". I sent her in and moved in another direction so I could over watch. About an hour after we were there and heard a rifle shot. Danger close. I eased over to Tasha standing in a small clearing pointing to a spot down hill. We walk in and she has a nice young buck down no muss, no fuss. So here's to consolation prizes....at least he will eat good.

Finished installing the last of the new porch railings today and got some more seat time on the Ferris for round 2 of the 2017 leaf rodeo.
I think we topped out at 68 today. Just damned gorgeous for this time of year!

I will straighten that flag tomorrow. Shut up about it.

She redeemed herself! Good for her! Good on you for your work, and nicely done to her. Congrats to you both.

Corrective measures have been employed. Two plumb bobs, a square, and three levels now certify that the flag is straight and true. Will recheck before dark, in case the winter sun's low angle is adversely affecting the diffraction of the light as it passes through the bubbles in the levels.
On a side note, one can only wonder how a friend could spend so much time posting and commenting on here and yet not seem to find those few precious moments to twist some wire and tie some flies for a person who has entrusted them with a priceless national treasure as a pattern. I mean, he said it would it be no problem.

The sign is perfect Tucker. You’re just feeling the weight of having the big #1 on your back. Think Alabama. It’s a heavy cross to bear.

If you’re absolutely sure the flag is plumb, then the light pole is off.
