They are lol better than nothing but not by much. I’m hoping @Tyler Kemp can make some screw in caps that aren’t ARD.
I'm 100% sold if Tyler makes some that actually screw in.

I fully expect I'll lose these caps during hunting season - sitting in a tree stand, pulling them out of my harness, and then hearing them pop out and fall into the leaves somewhere below to never be found.

I’ve sort of embraced dusty lenses on everything. My dust tolerance is fairly high.

I can deal with scope objective caps. Barely tolerate scope eyepiece caps.

No way could I futz with bino lens covers. Unless maybe they opened/closed by mind control haha!

My bino lens caps are a soft case lol

But I’m not making fun of those who like bino caps. Just not for me.

Join me in the worry-free nudist camp of bare lenses.

I am moving from several full AB devices, specifically Sig 8K and Sig 10K. My question is a general one. When linking a wind meter is there any advantage to using a wind meter with full AB? Why not use a Kestrel 5700 instead of a 5700 Elite? You do not need the full AB.
So the question is why use a full AB meter with a full AB rangefinder? Why not just use a 5700?

I gave my 5700 Elite to my son. I have been trying to set up the “non functional “ Calypso Mini AB. I need a better solution. So back to Kestrel 5700 or 5700 Elite? Which one? What say you?

I have a non ab mini calypso, I use the app to have real time wind values(works well so far) to put into my solver, now I'll input that data to the vector via the app, as it's much easier to use that system than pushing the buttons inside the vector. I'm pretty sure these new interfacing tech devices to integrate to the vector, and calypso are all just waiting on development and firmware to link or all up.

So if I get your work flow on the Calypso Mini non AB.
Use the Calypso Anemotracker app to get real time wind data.
Take the wind value and manually input to the VECSS app.
VECSS app pushes wind data to Vector X.

Yeah, unfortunately that's the only way currently. It'll be 2025 before the calypso functions with any of the ab engine devices I'm thinking.

Takes 5 seconds to send wind from app to binos and no button pushing, so I choose that over bino wind interface.

I'm hoping eventually I can firmware update my calypso to AB version, I didn't think there was a difference when I ordered 3 months ago, boy was a wrong.

I’d be in for a set of screw in caps or an attachment to these that will stay on.

I took these out to one match and they pop off way too easy for my comfort.

After a day of running these at a match, and an evening of glassing up squirrels, here are my thoughts.

A little back ground, i ran swaro el ranges, then zeiss rf binos for a year, then geovid 3200.coms, then geovid pros for a year. The zeiss had the best glass to my eye. The geovid pro’s had the best ballistic system and kestrel integration.

This was all until the vectronix. Side by side i much prefer the vectronix over the leicas. The detail they pick up is far better, the focus is extremely forgiving, and i notice very little distortion. From recollection, they are as good if not better than the zeiss.

The lazer is much easier to use then the leicas and was able to laze smaller targets at further distances. One today was a 66% ipcs at 1019yards, and a bear target about the same size, same yardage. Both were in a shadowed tree line. Also did very well picking us small targets 3-4” at 400-600 yards. Basically everything today was easily ranged.

I felt little to no eye fatigue after using them all day, easily spotted trace, and bullet impacts in dark wet dirt at 800 yards.

I run a leofoto ma30 head, and don't find these to work well with the head based off of the positioning of the arca mount, but i picked up a rrs scout head, and feel this is a fantastic solution. It makes it very simple to pan to different targets with one hand.

Any reservations i had about these were for not, and i am extremely pleased with the purchase. I look forward to many years of use.

For those that have Hornady 4DOF Kestrel, the update happening in early December should hopefully allow for Bluetooth communication according to the company.

Has anybody used the AB Cloud yet? On my Leica app the AB cloud works fine, but on the VECCS app the cloud backup throws an error saying to check network connection. I have tried on three different android phones, same result.

Just curious if anybody else had the same result.

Every freaking time! No connection whether cell or wifi. Def full of glitches.

So how does one lock the temp on the VectorX? Say im glassing from the truck window where it's relatively warm, 60° but it's 35° outside and I want the 35° to calculate in for dope? I liked the Sig 10k feature to set it to manual and input your own temp in the menu.

Yes if I remember correctly you can enter certain manual environmentals from the unit, and you for sure can do it from the app.
Sending the data from app would just be over written once you hit the range button and collects environmental data for next dope call tho right? I need to get intimate with these over the next 6 days for efficiency in the field, elk hunt starts in a week. Guns are dialed, everything is mostly ready cept my work flow with the vectorX.

To lock the temp you just access the environmental via the unit. In the temp field you can choose "internal sensor" or select a known temperature. Once you do this the unit will only use that temperature for the calculations.

Also I talked to folks at AB today, they know about the issue with the AB Cloud, apparently they are working on the bugs, the plan is to release a fix "in a few weeks". When I enquired about that they said they weren't releasing any fixes until they could release working apps for both Apple and Android at the same time. Apparently Apple had some additional hoops to jump through.

Interestingly enough AB Cloud works fine on the Leica App.

My Sig 3k is asking for retirement. But I feel the Vector-x plus Calipso is too green as a team the replace my Kestrel elite and ‘dumb’ bino lrf PRS routine. I have a great deal for a Swaro el range I can’t pass up. Sorry.

Got mine in last week and took them out hunting this past weekend.

Optically they are great, everyone that looked through them agreed they are worth it just for the glass.

Had to remove the battery to reset the binos twice. Once the sensors were not updating the environmental data and another time the hud would not come back on but it was still ranging and sending data to the kestrel.

Two things that I noticed that could be an issue. Through some sparse tall grass it would not range and I had to factory reset the binoculars for them to display the data from the kestrel. The kestrel would get the range data and compute the drop but the display would be different.

Does it have a "gate" function? To ignore reflections inside a certain range that you can set. And are you able to program how long the HUD remains in view after a lase?

Theres only two laser modes, and neither one made a difference in the grass.

Yes, theres a time out option for the HUD but that wasn't the problem I had. The HUD usually powers on within a second of pressing the lase button, this doesn't change.

Sorry, should have clarified. HUD timeout question is unrelated to the issue you had. I just wanted to know bc when I was looking thru a friend's model I really disliked how much space it takes up in the FOV and it stays for an annoyingly long time.

Interesting that you say that. I thought the same thing when seeing through-bino pics.
I did not think it would bother me. But when I was playing with my buddies 10 x, two things bother me about them. One was how much space the HUD blocked. And the way that I do wind and data it just shows a bunch of information I don't need. The second thing that bothered me about them was adjusting the ocular width via the hinge to create the full field of view through both barrels. I was just constantly messing with them trying to get them right. It felt like I could never quite get it aligned. I was struggling with getting both barrels on the same focal plane. I was also a little hesitant to just start messing with all his diopter settings so maybe when I get my own pair in hand it'll be a completely different experience. But I do wish I could slim down the amount of information the HUD shows. And definitely for how long it stays on

I own Fury 5000 G2 without the AB. Even its sparse display bugs me a bit as it stays on a while.

I think IIRC on my unit if I click the Mode button once while the display is on, then the display turns off. Something like that.

Edit: just walked out to the car to check. If the range display is on, if one holds the Mode button down for a bit you enter into settings. Then you immediately hold the Mode button down again to return to Range mode. The display doesn’t turn off but all that is now shown is the crosshairs and some tiny stuff…the large numbers are gone. Not perfect but better than before.

I wonder if the X works like that as well?

The HUD stays on for a minimum of 20sec.

I only had the hud on right before I take a shot or think I see something worth shooting at.

Its off 90% of the time, I think its nice to see range, drop and wind data in one screen. Ive never actually watched the hud turn off while using it during the hunt because I only need to look at the screen for a few seconds before picking up the rifle or putting the binoculars down to move on.

My last range finder was a sig 2400bdx and outside of the shooting range I didnt like that I had to wait a few seconds as it cycled between range, drop and wind.

I think the HUD is perfect on these. Like @point45 mentioned, I didn't like the cycling between range and holds on the fury's. The HUD is finer on the vectors and easier to see through than my fury's were. I've spent alot of time behind my vectors and the HUD has never bothered me. If you're worried about it, you can set the screen on time from 5 seconds to 60 seconds. You can also dim the brightness down so you can see through it easier. I just run mine on auto brightness.

I get it. Sounds like it works fine for your use.

To be clear, I am in no way saying the Fury’s are in the same league as the Vectronix. Either in interface or performance.

For me, I primarily use it in the pdog or ground squirrels fields. Often I will range a pdog and the dang thing jumps in a hole before I even get off the binos.

Then it’s a small irritation when immediately scanning for more targets due to the HUD blasting my right eye. The targets are tiny…and easily obscured.

I think I’d be bugged if I couldn’t hack a way to turn off the even bigger HUD of the X at will. But a 5 sec shut off probably is ok.

I am the type of user where they had me at 12 power reticle, vectronics laser, and Bluetooth. I will continue to use my 5700 for data and project to my HUD on the gun or just BT range to my watch and use that onboard AB. Having AB in the Binos is a bonus, but I wish I could be selective about it.

That's good to hear you can set a low display time. Thanks for confirming that.
