Agreed! But as others alreasy stated, this should have already happened. We have screwed ourselves by ever becoming so dependent on these other nations! It may hurt, but it’s time to bring production and strength back to this country. If we don’t do it now, the US is assuredly toast. May not be overnight gone but likely within our time. And that’s no bueno. I think he is trying. I hope he is legit and knows what he is doing. Many are gambling on this being correct.

I think his approach is a big gamble and so far I am not optimistic.

Just remember that there are no ways in a global market to prop up workers in industries that can't compete without raising prices and lowering the standard of living. I want America strong, I also want a F150 for under $100k.

A customer who has become a friend, runs a machine shop in Tennessee. He has gone from plugging along to turning away business, since word came of the Canadian tariffs. He can’t take on any more.

Businesses that were making stuff in Canada are calling him to make it here in the US now to avoid the tariffs.

Agreed, I'm afraid we will be cancelling our terriffs soon and just be weaker in the end.

If Trump won't back down, I think Congress will block him soon. If not the GOP will get crushed in 2026 and that will end it with Dems in control.

I sure hope I'm wrong and other countries agree to compromise before we have to back down.

I think it is the voters fault. There are no longer any moderate Democrats or Republicans. We don't elect anyone who isn't extreme left or right. No surprise their agendas are extreme and they can't work together.

In my youth the liberal Republican were more liberal than the conservative Democrats and vice versa. Now the parties have no overlap, no common ground.

We should also remember that inflation/increased cost of living will force wages higher that will increase cost of goods increasing cost of living.

The GOP is pushing to increase the debt ceiling by $5T from $36.1T. They are preparing to spend at record levels. They want a huge line of credit without Congress getting to vote on it again or it becomes a news cycle.

So much for fiscal responsibility.

It is unlikely that the overhead costs for domestic manufacturing will not rise. Even if by some miracle they can get all the raw materials and components at the same cost, they will not be able to increase production without investing. Deciding to make a big investment on the assumption that your sell price will remain high is a risk.

Who wants to get half way into building the new factory to find out the tariff is now reduced or gone.

It may take years to build manufacturing capacity. This not a simple problem with sound bite solutions.

We already have a lot of capacity though. It isn’t like Federal, Winchester, Hornady, etc. have to re-invent the wheel, break ground on virgin property, and start from scratch.

Same with other industries. A lot of them have plants on real estate with a lot of spare room for expansion. If they weren’t already expanding based on betting on the home team, they’re wrong.

People need to permanently shut off the anti-American media full of do-nothing naysayers, reach down into their core, and figure out what it means to be American again.

The thing that’s crazy is labor costs in China have risen dramatically since US politicians created the environment where our manufacturing was shipped over there, and they kept getting more valued added into their system, even if it was for lower-end products in the market that were run out of the US (textiles, toys, small parts, cheap electronics). They also went up because of One Child, where the CCP murdered 100 million female babies, and who knows how many males over 35 years.

Then we have the strategic manufacturing considerations for war time. The US makes more than most people are aware in this space, but due to the modern nature of weapons, we don’t want to be caught in another Pearl Harbor-like event.

This is so much about security on many levels. All is not well, where we can just assume foreign manufacturing will deliver, especially in the event China gets adventurist.

So the natural response that should have happened already with ammo is more US-based production and manufacturing opportunities for US employees.

The only reason US customers buy foreign-made ammo is because they’ve been under-cutting us on costs, using cheaper labor in Eastern Europe, Mexico, and South Korea.

Combined with anti-gun traitors who also happen to be on Russian and Chicom bribery payroll over the past several generations, there has been a concerted effort to suppress US ammunition-manufacturing capacity.

Look at Council for a Livable World and all the US politicians they have helped get elected illegally with foreign influence. Every one of them reads like a who’s-who of anti-gun, anti-2A legislators.

This whole things is so much bigger than trade. The ammunition industry is a microcosm of a lot of it.
