Communicating optics to a car guy

Cars peaked around '05 IMHO with the Carrera GT, 360 Challenge Stradale, 996 GT3, C6Z06, E60 M5, E46 M3, Subaru STi, EVO 9MR (just to index some different price points). No current new cars interest me. Everything is coalescing around meaningless metrics for "car guys" who can't change their own oil.
I mostly agree. The Toybaru twins are an exception, even if they're not impressive on paper the concept of simple relatively lightweight RWD cars hits me right in the feels, GTI's are still some of the most practical funmobiles you can get, shitboxes turned hooligan like the GR Yaris remind me of better times. But yeah, modern cars mostly suck and have no soul, especially from the brand that brought us the E28/E30 through E46/E39 magic.

What scope does this correlate with?

Failed execution… a Civic SI of the same era will shit on BRZ/FR-S. Great, they corner really nice and feel lithe I suppose, but so gutless.
The second gen apparently has fixed a lot of the power complaints. But I still disagree. Based on the numbers, yes, SI wins. But that's the problem with focusing on numbers. As a person that's owned relatively gutless RWD cars (think E30's and S13 240SX's pre CA18 swap etc.) and some much faster FWD cars (lightly modified MK6 GTI), the slower RWD driving experience always wins.

The driving experience doesn’t make up for the shame. Best thing about that car was it got me the money into a real N/A engine RWD when I sold it.

Meanwhile, we all are still looking for that high mileage SWFA work car for a decent price.
I love me some NF ATACR 7-35 (new Tundra), but do own a few Bushnell ET (camry that will go 250K+ miles) and some SWFA SS (early Tacoma that will also go 250k+ miles). SWFA fixed 10x is like a Gen1 Kawasaki KLR or a '67 Baja Bug. Not the most modern or high speed, but it will get the job done as reliably and for a fraction of the cost of many others.

Leupold = Jeep

Everyone loved it in the 90s and it was awesome. Yet they never evolved and then sold the exact same thing for decades.

Then when they did try something new it was either a horrible idea, or it was so fucking overpriced that only fobbit tourists that didn't know better bought it.
Cracks me the hell up that it took 35 posts before anyone mentioned Leupold 🤣.
I guess RITON is too new?

I don't post here often, I'm mainly a lurker, but I just wanted to thank you for this. I laughed my ass off at the entire thread

I'm going to run out and buy a new Quigley-Ford™ to add to my high teir optics collection and then I'm going to bench 276.
If you liked that thread check out the full Legendary Thread.
