Now to get it changed out

@Zermatt Arms

Ray what are the differences with the new bolts as compared to the old bolts? Thicker/wider lugs for more surface contact? Different angle?

Thanks Dave
A geometry change was made to create more contact between the bolt body and the receiver at the leading edge of the closing cam as well as a material state change to increase durability.

Thank you - Ray

Received my bolt replacement for my Rim-X 17HM2 build from my gunsmith yesterday.
Installed it per Zermatts instructions. I dont have a sonic cleaner that big for a barreled action so I used cleaners and compressed air

The gouging issue is still there
The first few bolt lock downs felt rough then smoothen out. Still hangs up occasionally. Pictures after 50 shots. Im able to use a nail file and scratch it still. Zermatt did not fix the issue. Spoke with Ray a while back, nice fella but not whos in charge. Not happy

Thank you for providing this feedback. Rest assured, we'll get it sorted out.

I'd like to send you a return label for your barreled action to bring it in for inspection to see what else may be going on. We have not seen anything like this at this point, so we want to see what else may be going on in your system.

Please email me - [email protected] - and we'll go from there.

Here's the original bolt body and my 2nd (replacement bolt) for my RIM-X. Zermatt sent me the replacement but unfortunately the wear issue was the same. The new bolt only has 50 rounds on it. Zermatt told me that they have a new design that they are going to send me.

Did you pull the barrel and clean the action? If not I bet you did not get all the metal shavings out....I have had this bolt issue with 2 RimX actions and Ray @Zermatt Arms took care of me right away, This was before this blew up like it has and Ray had bolts in stock.

The first action Ray told me clean it up real good, Grease up the lugs on the new bolt and run it so I did but I did not clean it up good enough(did not pull the barrel to clean the action)and started having issues again right away called Ray and he had me send the action in. I had it back in a few days and ray told me I did not get all the shavings out.

Action number 2 I pulled the barrel and ran a can of Gun scrub and nylon bushed the shit out of it, Greased up the new bolt and both actions have 1500+ rounds through them now and both run smooth.

Shavings of what exactly?

Thanks for the offer Ray. I left the rifle with my gunsmith today as we discussed options. He builds a lot of the F Class rifles for folks in Ben Avery shooting range. Screwing on a prefit shouldn't be to hard for him. It looks like you guys had over a year to fix this problem from the looks of those who brought this up. My gunsmith called a local friend of his that had an older rimx serial 11XX and brought his bolt in today. Confirmed that the problem didn't happen with his bolt, so obviously what ever change was made is the problem. Some of us can read past the bias folk here. This isn't directed towards you, but whom ever decided to cut corners there at Zermatt needs to be fired.

I needed this rifle done before I leave back to my homestead in a few weeks and deal with the never ending prairie dog issue I have. So this rifle is a tool for me. I also experienced the jam which is my fault as I'm use to chambering slow. If I gotta pamper this action and drench with grease to avoid this issue or spend more money altering the bolt head to avoid a jam, then this rifle doesnt belong in my arsenal. I waited 8 months for this Lilja prefit and went against my gunsmith's recommendation on using a CZ for this 17HM2 build because I had a manner stock I wanted to use. At this point, the reputation and faith of this action is out the door for me. This action Its sitting at my gunsmiths shop on consignment. Im having this barrel recontoured and fitted onto a CZ457

Best of luck
